With the official opening of this year’s kick-off event by Government Vice President Martin Rößler (RP Gießen), the “Day of the Regions” event series begins under the motto “Short routes – big impact”.
Although the event didn’t officially start until 12 p.m., we were there by 9:30 a.m. A beautiful venue was found in the Birkenhof farm cafe in Butzbach-Fauerbach and we set up our market stall in peace. You couldn’t unload comfortably at the stand but had to carry heavy things across the site. Luckily that only affected the tent. Everything else was simply passed over the fence. So also according to the motto “Short routes – big impact”.
After setting up, we had a leisurely breakfast and watched as more stands were set up on the site. And there were also some Wetterau originals as exhibitors, which were selected in advance by RP Gießen.
A colorful stage program from 1 p.m. accompanied the event throughout the day, while I demonstrated basket weaving to the visitors. The not-so-young guests remembered how grandpa used to weave baskets in the winter and the very young ones were told by the adults that they were making a basket.
Actually, both statements that immediately scream for our beautiful cash register and the corresponding price table.
The constant look at the weather app was a companion to the event throughout the day. Predictions of rain, strong gusts of wind and even a thunderstorm warning were displayed. And in the afternoon the humidity actually increased in the form of precipitation and the wind brought a few worry lines to our foreheads a few times.
All in all, the weather held up pretty well. But when a dark wall appeared around 6:30 p.m., we set about quickly packing up and dismantling in consultation with the RP Gießen coordinator, while other exhibitors were already packing up.
There wasn’t quite enough time to load everything dry into the car. But we were still lucky with the rain front. Sitting in the car and on the way home it seemed to be raining a little harder. So I hope that everyone involved was able to relax somewhat on what was an interesting day.
Thanks to the RP Gießen for the invitation to this event and also a big thank you to the operators of the Bauerhofcafe Birkenhof for providing the area and their hospitality.
