The last time was in Münzenberg and the 14th guild and crafts market in Seligenstadt was already a week ago. Time is just flying by at the moment. At least that’s how I feel.
The guild and crafts market only takes place every two years in the old basilica. And I was able to take part for the fourth time now. Both outside and in the museum, everything from guilds and old crafts that had a name and a name was on display. Blue printing, rope making, leather (I was able to persuade our Groby from the Ranstädt creative and gourmet shop to apply and take part), printer, white binder and many, many other professions were shown again. Of course also with the basket maker from Ranstadt, namely me.
This year I was also accommodated in the museum. An absolute advantage in the hot temperatures but also in the rain, if it had rained. If you don’t know this historic market yet, you’ve really missed something and will now have to wait until 2020. It’s definitely worth spending the whole day looking around to see what’s on offer. Nowhere else can you experience so much craft, some of which are almost or completely extinct, because everyone shows how it is practiced.
Unfortunately, the press seems to see it a little differently. Because there are more reports about the jugglers, musicians and the fire show and there are only pictures of the outside area. The many craftsmen and actors in the museum are completely ignored every year.
What was sometimes annoying were comments like “Oh look, small basket”(in german Körbchen). The majority of the weaving I bring with me are full-blown baskets. There can be no talk of “…chen”. This constant trivialization got on your nerves from the first day. So I immersed myself in my work and weaved with willow.
On the whole, however, there was an inquisitive and interested audience who were interested in the craftsmanship on display. And here’s to 2020
I’m already looking forward to the 15th guild and crafts market in Seligenstadt.
