Getting a taste of a different craft is what Andreas aka Groby from Lederstübchen thought when he signed up for the braiding course with his wife Astrid months ago.
Since we are part of the Ranstädter creative and gourmet shop, it made sense to hold the course at the Ranstädter Tag in the Hofgut. Early in the morning we set up the course tent and also the sales stand of our store community together. And then the braiding course started.
For someone who usually only works with leather, this was a completely new experience. And as soon as I made the floor cross, people said, “It’s a lot of work.” As the temperatures rose, the demands on the course participants to process the willows in such a way that ultimately a bowl was created also increased. With or without integrated handles, just as you like.
Braiding errors were relentlessly corrected. And whether that was why you could see a sweat of fear on your forehead in front of the strict course instructor or whether it was just the heat?
At around 5:00 p.m. it was done. The baskets were ready and Astrid and Groby were happy but also proud of what they had achieved. For Groby, the craft excursion from leather to willow was an experience he doesn’t necessarily want to repeat, but he now knows what kind of work goes into a basket.
We ended the day together at the sales stand and looked forward to the end of the day.
