At some point a seat fabric breaks and has to be replaced. I’ve come across the strangest methods of fastening the old braid. Everything was already there, from masses of staples to tons of industrial glue in the drill holes and under the seat.
In such cases I am called upon. For me it’s an absolute nightmare when every drill hole is covered with industrial glue and I have to drill out every single one. The glue becomes warm and elastic and then bonds the drill. This is also the case with a seat frame and a Thonet armchair. Some of the statements I make in the workshop are no longer suitable for printing. I always ask myself why the previous person said this is the only way a chair wicker holds up. A small drop of glue in some places would have been enough. But apparently the glue was on special offer somewhere and according to the motto a lot helps a lot and it lasts, it makes for a lot of fun the next time you remove a defective seat fabric. But I don’t see any fun in such things.
This is said by someone who is happy about every professionally made seat weave when it needs to be replaced.
