Back in our home country – if only for 3 weeks
During the last 4 weeks of company holidays, we were, how could it be otherwise, on Corsica again. This time again in Travo, where we already spent the turn of the year in 2017/18. From Toulon, we took the ferry overnight to Bastia.

When we moved into the guest house, we were already made aware that there were tortoises on the property. Before driving the car, we should always look underneath to see if there were any in front of or behind the tyres. So we had to do deep knee bends again and again and look out for the “Testudo hermanni Herrmanni”. A sports programme of a somewhat different kind for the next few days and weeks when we were going to travel by car.
Obviously, the turtles feel so comfortable that they work diligently at reproducing just that, squeaking and squeaking.
Since all the animals have numbers on their backs, they could all be distinguished. And so in the afternoons, from the terrace, one could see many an animal roaming through the garden when they were not otherwise occupied (as seen above).

And as a little activity, I had three wooden frames with me, which I wove with cotton braiding tape. This is just mentioned to have the reference to basket making in this article ;-)
On the first evening on the terrace and as dusk fell, more pets appeared: wall geckos patiently waiting for insects.

It was fun to watch the nimble little guys. Too long, however, led to neck pain. But through the many observations we also learned how the geckos do their “big and little business”. First they dance on their hind legs, then they lift their tails, align their bodies so that gravity can work correctly, and then….

Somehow there was little or no photography on the way, so the yield is not too great. However, after so many years we already know the area reasonably well, so we only take photos in the areas where we have not yet been.

We can’t do without the infamous cat on holiday after all. Somehow they always find their way to us. One of a total of 4 of our landlord’s cats paid us a brief visit, but wasn’t really interested in us either.
We felt very comfortable in our little oasis and are already planning for 2024.
The three weeks were over far too quickly. It was time to pack and head for Porto Vecchio. From there we were to go to Toulon. As always, we set off on our return journey with tears in our eyes. Somehow Corsica is our home, where we would like to live completely in a few years.

With a stopover at a campsite in Dole (F), we arrived back home two days later, but wanted to turn around again on the way, heading south.
