(ralf) The last few weeks, and especially the last few days, have been marked by Katja feeling very unwell. It got to the point where I called an ambulance in the middle of the night and Katja was taken to the hospital in Schotten with severe pain in her lower abdomen. However, they were ultimately unable to help her there, so she was transferred to the University Hospital in Gießen. Thanks to painkillers, Katja managed to get through the journey and the day reasonably well. Initial examinations revealed problems with a kidney, which were then clarified and confirmed a few days later in the Department of Nuclear Medicine.

As our van was in the garage at the time, we were thankfully able to borrow a car from some lovely friends. Without it, all the driving back and forth would have been much more of a hassle for me.

Although Katja had to take quite a few antibiotics, the pain started up again this morning. As we now have our van back, we went to Ranstadt to see the GP. And once again, a test confirmed that her kidneys are causing problems. We phoned the UKGM to request Wednesday’s test results. Bacteria are responsible for Katja’s health issues. So, more antibiotics and a strong painkiller.

We’re leaving it open for now as to whether Katja will be fit for the next market day. In any case, she won’t be able to do any basket weaving.
