This year, which has been rather unusual – partly due to my absence for health reasons – I’ve been back to work on chair caning. I’ve now finished the first seat for an Art Nouveau chair, and the chair has already been returned to its owners.
I’m currently working on the seat of a piano stool, and after that I’ll be moving on to a corner chair ready for a new caning.

A little while later, the piano stool was also fitted with new wickerwork. The seat frame was then reattached to the frame. The piano stool is now ready for collection.
Unfortunately, the wickerwork on the corner chair was stuck fast in every (im)possible place and in all the drill holes, so Ralf had to drill them all out. It is now ready for new seat wickerwork.
As a traditional basketry workshop, a love for nature and honest craftsmanship are close to our hearts. Please note that our blog articles often consist of personal workshop reports, historical insights, or everyday stories. If general characteristics such as "natural," "chemical-free," "sustainable," or "biodegradable" are mentioned in the texts, these refer solely to our untreated willow wickerwork. For quality reasons, we standardly use modern, durable cotton weaving tape when renewing chair caning. The currently valid material details, legally binding information, and appropriate care instructions for your product can be found on our information pages and in the FAQs.
