It’s hard to believe it’s over again. We had just arrived and pitched our tents at the Georgenwald in Himbach. The 13th Hohenstaufer Spectacular is behind us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As always, well organized by the club, always relaxed and with a special atmosphere, we were able to experience two wonderful market days. Overnight stay included in a caravan opposite on the former sports field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We parked the caravan 2 days before on Wednesday and then arrived again on Friday with the market tents in the trailer. Thanks to the short distance of 18km, the journey was very relaxed. Even after two years, we still sorted and put all the boards and poles together so that we had 2 tents as the end result. So nothing is forgotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the sweaty setup, we went home to shower, do a little shopping and then finally drive to Himbach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Looking back, the long weekend was like a mini vacation. At least when you sit comfortably together in the evening, drink one or two glasses of wine or beer, light the candles and let Katja’s birthday end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first market day started relaxed with a lie-in and a leisurely breakfast. Everything was then calmly prepared at the stand for the starting signal at 10 a.m. and we prepared for a 13-hour day. The pastures were being prepared for the weaving demonstrations and the fires were smoking all around us. Smoked meat is supposed to last longer. Does that also apply to us? No matter\u2026then you smell like you did after campfires, forge fires and barbecues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Katja was weaving the first baskets, I was able to relax and look at the first visitors in the neighboring tent. As the number of visitors increased, so did the temperature and with the heat people increasingly longed for the end of the market day at 11 p.m. But it will still take some time until then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the afternoon there was an event that made you smile. Two women kept coming to the stand, admiring the baskets with all their different wicker colors. Katja was working on a basket at the time and everyone was watching her fingers with excitement. Here again the reference to the color combination etc.
In the end, Katja had barely finished weaving the last willow for the handle when the basket was already bought. Pointing out that the willow trees still need to dry, the new owner left happily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As dusk approached, the candle lights were hung. Although this doesn’t make it easier to see the basketry, it does create a homely atmosphere. Reason enough to get the cooler bag out of the caravan and start tasting the drinks we brought with us from 10 p.m. An hour later it was time to close all the hatches and use the rest of the evening to end the first market day. So cheers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It’s nice to be able to start the day in peace, because you’re already there and you can get to the stand in just 2 minutes. So we were able to start the second day without any hassle, which we really enjoyed. On this day too, Katja demonstrated the craft she had learned and we were happy to answer all of the visitors‘ questions. A little tiredness and the occasional yawn showed us that we are no longer 20 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it wasn’t just us. Many other market and warehouse people could also see that the night was short. We were still happy to have been there. The time until 6 p.m. passed quickly and with it the 13th Hohenstaufer Spectacular in Himbach. Of course we donated our tithe and also an electricity subsidy. Ultimately, the club has to bear its costs and we hope that the income was sufficient for the club’s coffers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The dismantling of our tents then took place quickly. Except Katja got her hand caught between two boards. Once you’re not careful and the back of your hand turns blue. So put the ice pack on and I loaded the rest. After an hour everything was loaded and with a big goodbye until 2023 and see you soon, we headed home. The caravan is still missing, which we will then pick up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the market takes place again in 2023, we hope to be there again. Then with a slightly longer weekend for set-up and dismantling and a little more ambient camping for us. Almost a short vacation. Let’s see\u2026..<\/p>\n\n\n
