<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\nThe second braiding course for beginners from NABU Ortenberg took place on April 12, 2014. Four braiding enthusiasts took part again. One participant even found her way to Ortenberg from Frankfurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a short presentation and introduction, we started. The first willows were selected for the ground cross and the ground. It quickly became clear to everyone that it required a lot of strength to shape the willows so that a stable floor was created. The first contact with basket making for some participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A hearty lunch was a welcome relief. Depending on your taste, you could choose between a beef goulash soup or a vegetarian soup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Freshly strengthened, we decided to continue braiding outside because the sun was shining brightly from the blue sky. So we quickly remodeled and brought tables, chairs and materials outside the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Here we continued with the stakes, the hull chine, layer, final chine and surcharge. Not that everyone was sweating, even though it was warm in the sun. The work was more in Ehr’s hands, because you have to be very hands-on at every step. Despite the strenuous activity, the fun didn’t stop there. This was proven by the laughter of everyone across the salt marshes and many a walker risked a look at this funny group weaving baskets in the middle of the green as they passed by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After eight hours of hard work and occasional help from me, each participant was able to complete their own woven bowl. Proud of having made it, but also happy to finally be able to rest their battered hands, we said goodbye to each other after a strenuous day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
