Cloudy but dry and still somewhat pleasant at just under 20 degrees. This circumstance probably attracted several hundred visitors to the first farmers’ market in Bad Salzhausen this year or in more than 8 months.
Always in the back of our minds after such a long forced market break: did we have everything with us and didn’t forget anything? After checking everything several times and going through everything in my head, we started setting up early. As if the last market hadn’t been so long ago, the setup went smoothly and without complications. In fact, everything was there and every move was spot on.
At the beginning the sky was constantly overcast, like a spray mist with a bit of humidity, dark clouds that kept bringing up the thought of a wet market day. But it remained dry until it was dismantled.
No matter whether market feeders or customers, guests and visitors; everyone was looking forward to the farmers market. For many, including me, the first market ever this year and way back in 2020.
And as is often the case, everyone is euphoric. finally farmers market again, an incidence below 20, dry. Initially, while all hygiene rules were observed, the behavior then decreased significantly across all age groups. A lot of visitors without masks, little to no distance between each other and others. That’s a downer that makes you think. As if there were no more Corona, as if the Delta variant (Indian) didn’t already account for 2% of all new infections in Germany and is said to be 40% more contagious than all other variants.
Too much normality that suddenly took hold in the afternoon. And there was no sign of any inspections by the regulatory authorities.
The fact that it is precisely those for whom you come to the market as a market supplier will, in the worst case scenario, ensure that the market will have to close again in the future due to a lack of compliance with the hygiene rules that are important to all of us and thus perhaps an increase in the incidence, is precisely what is interesting these people don’t. They had fun, but ignored the fact that the very people who make the fun possible, namely us,. largely live from these markets.
One can hope and be curious whether the market will really establish itself in the future under Corona conditions and whether there will finally be controls that ensure that everyone adheres to the rules.
