Virus warning

Due to current events, I would like to point out that a participant in yesterday’s braiding course was infected with the braiding virus. This is the third time she has taken part in my braiding course.

And with each course the demands on her became a little more difficult. There is a very specific reason behind the frequent participation, which I don’t want to reveal yet. Today’s agenda was to weave an oval basket with peeled and unpeeled willow.

This time there were two male course participants who wanted to try their hand at processing unpeeled willow. And you can see from the pictures that basket weaving can be learned at any age. For these two they had to make a round basket out of unpeeled willow.

How much we would have loved to braid outside under the big plane tree. But the weather forecast didn’t bode well and so we found ourselves in the course room.

After a short introduction to the ground cross, all course participants were off to the pastures. By lining up the stands, stakes, weaving the hull chine and the layer, the baskets slowly took their shape.

A busy silence, interrupted only by the hammering of the iron, had now spread. But there was also a lot of laughter and it showed that they were having a lot of fun.

After 7 hours of braiding, minus lunch, everyone was done. Almost at the same time everyone had their finished woven baskets in front of them. And everyone can be really proud of their result.

And our course participant, who was affected by the lichen virus, has already registered for the next course. Which brings us back to the beginning of this report:
Weaving baskets can be addictive!
