It was that time again today. Braiding course was in the calendar. So pack your things and turn your gaze to the sky and assess whether you will be braiding indoors or outdoors.
Because my apprentice Edelgard (here for the 4th time) was supposed to weave today with peeled willows and in the heat we have to weave particularly quickly because the willows dry out quickly. Since it is shady under the large plane tree, I decided to go outside.
First a dance with the broom and a quick sweep. Then the time had come. The peeled willow will become a baby basket. Thanks to the mattress and throw, we know the size and the task Edelgard set for herself scared her a bit. Our second course participant booked the starter package. So it should be a bowl made from unpeeled willow.
After a short introduction we started. The difference between the floor crosses actually says it all (see pictures) about the tasks set.
Vera, the second participant, prepared really well and finished her bowl in record time. Time enough to braid an infected foot here.
Every now and then I always looked towards the baby basket and if things weren’t moving fast enough, I helped. The basket should not be finished, but rather the bottom and the hull chine. The rest should continue to be braided at home. But the willows dry out too quickly at this temperature.
In the end, everyone achieved their daily goal and I hope Edelgard and Vera had as much fun as I did.
