Setting up the medieval tents in Bellmuth for the 975th anniversary was very, very strenuous in temperatures over 30°. There’s no breeze to cool you down and you’re fed up with the sun. You were happy when the awning was up and you could sit in the shade.
You had the feeling that the air didn’t contain any oxygen, it was so warm on the meadow and the sweat was pouring down. It was just a matter of drinking, drinking and drinking again.
Most of the camp was already set up and more traders gradually arrived. We have plenty of space on the meadow and it will be interesting to see what happens between now and Saturday.
The start of the market should be interesting. The flyers and posters say 2:00 p.m. for Saturday. However, the time reported in the press was 10:00 a.m. However, the organizer is not to blame here, because he knows from his own experience what it means to take part in the 12-hour market. So whoever’s press office failed here. But it doesn’t help. So we will arrive around 10:00 a.m. and slowly prepare everything.
Since there is still a blank spot in Bellmuth when it comes to mobile communications, it will not be possible to report live. And we didn’t read the storm warning on Friday evening until we got home. There was talk of heavy rain, hail, thunderstorms and squalls. An uneasy feeling spread and the gaze constantly looked upwards and the sky became darker and darker. The two tents are not roped off and the worst scenario has been imagined in your mind’s eye.
The storm radar was constantly monitored online and in fact: everything west of the Wetterau received a lot of damage and the weather there was really bad. It stayed dry and calm for us. That’s the spirit. At least as far as we are concerned, and a little selfishness is probably appropriate.
Now we’re hoping for two days of good market activity without any problems; except maybe a tiny bit of rain. So let’s let ourselves be surprised and hope for the best.
