It has now been five years since I decided on February 1, 2011 to return to my apprenticeship as a basket maker.
At first I was a little unsure of what I could do with the weaving technique after a long time, but thanks to my 25-year-old workshop reports, I quickly got used to the craft of basket making and was able to get used to it again.
I won’t soon forget the moment when I presented my craft to the public for the first time. Excited, with a stomach ache and a pounding heart, I presented myself to the audience and in retrospect it wasn’t so bad. When I think back on it today, I have to smile at how difficult it was for myself to get started.
Over the past five years, I have participated in many a market as an exhibitor and in most cases have shown the craft of basket making to visitors. I have now found my favorite markets. No matter whether it’s the regular farmers’ market in Bad Salzhausen or the medieval one in Münzenberg, Lißberg or all other markets. I feel comfortable and in good hands there.
I enjoy my work a lot and I look forward to many more years that I can spend with my basket making craft and also introduce children and adults to it in courses.
