Like every first Sunday of the month, today we went to the farmers’ market in Bad Salzhausen with a tent and basketry. Everything was set up in the usual place and then the waiting for the customers began.
The unanimous opinion of our colleagues was: It stays dry. Oh well; three weather reports and four different weather forecasts. Initially dry, I was able to sell a few small decorative items.
But after four hours, things happened as they had to. At exactly 2 p.m. the heavens opened and plenty of moisture came down from above. The hope of a dry dismantling of the tent was gone. The water was sometimes waist high, if you were 4cm tall. The ground was saturated and the water was bubbling under your shoes on the meadow. After a good half hour it was over again and it seemed as if the rain had washed away the last visitor.
The first visitors hesitantly looked up from the rows of tents and dared to walk down the path covered in large puddles. A slalom from one stand to the other began. You couldn’t help but smile at times. The women wore thin ballet flats on their feet and the men wore fashionable white socks in sandals. And then the triple step. Delicious to look at.
I admit, we started packing up 15 minutes before the end. But very slowly. Because the next dark rain clouds were gathering. And the tent and baskets should still be (somewhat) dry in the car. At 5:20 p.m. we were ready to leave.
But first we said goodbye to our stand neighbor “The Völzberger Kräutermann” as he retires. We wish him and his wife all the best and lots of time for all the things they have planned.
After a delicious Chinese dinner we arrived home safely and enjoyed the rest of Sunday.
