The 9th Hohenstaufen Spectaculum took place in Limeshain-Himbach at the weekend. My preparations had already been completed on Friday to the point where I was able to comfortably set up at lunchtime with a fully loaded bus and trailer.
Sunshine and a shady spot welcomed us to the area that we had only ever known as visitors. It was still quiet at this time and we were able to set up the tents in peace and prepare everything for the market weekend. Two hours later the setup was completed and we went back the 22km towards Ranstadt.
Excited to see what the market would be like, we had to get up early on Saturday and arrive in Himbach early. Everything still needed to be decorated. Presenting baskets and preparing for weaving courses were started. And sooner than you think it’s 10:00 a.m. and the market begins.
The colorful peddigor shone in the sun. But first I set about re-weaving the back of a chair. However, I didn’t get far. The first people willing to braid stood in front of the tent around 1 p.m. and there was no stopping them until 9 p.m. Without a break, these were eight hours of pure children’s braiding courses.
When the market finally closed at 10 p.m. you were happy to finally go home and go to bed. I was simply broken.
Back the next day it was time to prepare more floors. Because if Sunday continued the way Saturday ended, the tent would quickly have been full of little basket makers again. But as it turned out, Sunday was a very quiet day. Two camp children were the spoils early in the morning. Then it was time to rest for the rest of the day. But that also had something positive. In a week a braiding course will begin as part of the Ortenberg holiday games with 12 children. I need all the prepared floors anyway. So everything is good.
At 6 p.m. the market ended and dismantling began. At around 8 p.m. we were sitting on the terrace at home again. The summary of the market is good and we have decided to register again for 2017. The market has its advantages due to its proximity to Ranstadt, the beautiful grounds and the many friends and acquaintances who were also present there or came to us as visitors. And the organization was also good.
Thank you for two really nice market days in Himbach.
