January 10th had been in my calendar for a while. Invited to the Wetterau district’s New Year’s reception, all Wetterau originals received their certificates.
A good hour before the official start, I was able to exhibit some of my basketry, just like all the other Wetterau originals were able to present their products. Since we already knew each other from many markets, it was definitely a family event for us.
After a musical introduction by a children’s choir, who also loved to perform a really great song about the Wetterau, with lots of applause, of course, came the obligatory speech by the district administrator. And at the end of this speech, we were called up as Wetterau originals and were all allowed to come to the lectern. The certificates were presented and the expected press photo was snapped.

After a good 2 hours the New Year’s reception was over and we packed our things and all headed home.
