Pentecost and Münzenberg or Münzenberg at Pentecost. These are two events that have been linked for years. The Medieval Market in Münzenberg is already a tradition on this long weekend. This was also the case in 2017.
Construction day on June 2nd
One day before the market started, all of the equipment and my basketry was brought to Münzenberg. As always, we were warmly welcomed by the Münzenberg Knights and escorted to our place. You immediately notice the years of experience in organization.
The construction was sweaty with very high humidity. The meadow lost a lot of moisture due to previous rain showers. But the tents were also set up and the baskets were unloaded at some point. The motto was pack up the tent and go home. Decoration or display will be done the next day.
1st market day (Saturday)
There were some heavy rain showers overnight. But upon arrival in Münzenberg it was found that the market tent remained closed. The sun sail rain shelter tent, on the other hand, let a lot of water through. So it was quickly decided that both tent tarpaulins would be impregnated after the market for the next use.
Constantly looking at the pocket herald’s weather radar, the forecast didn’t really bode well. A lot of water would come down on us from above over the course of the day. But at the beginning it was still dry and a short braiding course was on the agenda for that day. Given the weather forecast, the number of visitors was somewhat limited, but it wasn’t too small either.
Well, and then the rain: the market square, as far as I could see, was empty, the tents full of visitors seeking shelter; as it is when it rains.
Dry phases alternated with slightly wetter ones. And the organizers took notice and announced that the market would be closed at 10 p.m.
2nd market day (Whitsun Sunday)
Sunny prospects gave us hope that we would be able to welcome many visitors today. Although it rained heavily again on Sunday night, everything remained dry. The temperatures promised the best weather for visitors. Not too cold and not too warm and just dry. And so it was. Visitors streamed onto the site well into the early evening. It wasn’t until around 9 p.m. that the action shifted towards the arena and the food court. From this point on, the market stalls were only illuminated accessories for the ambience. Until 11:00 p.m., the people supplying the market basically visited and entertained themselves.
3rd market day (Whit Monday)
It should also be dry and pleasantly warm on this day. All of my willow trees had now been processed through the weaving course and commissioned work. I expect a small basket to provide photographic feedback in use, which I hope will not be forgotten.
Without wicker, it was now time to make a chair wicker. You immediately notice that some visitors are interested in demonstrating crafts and are asking questions. They will also be displayed after 10,000x “How long does this take?” answered patiently. Over the years we have now become accustomed to (almost) always answering with a smile. And so the last market day came to an end. Short discussions with the stand neighbors regarding cars and dismantling ensured that everything went off without much chaos. It was possible to dismantle quickly but calmly. Here and there people helped each other. This also applies when coupling our trailer. Ralf probably didn’t get all the rainwater off the tarpaulin. And that was the fate of our stand neighbor. The finest, cold water poured from above onto the neck and cooled down towards the feet. All that remains to be said is:

Conclusion
Again, in the usual way, an excellently organized market with almost a “good weather guarantee”. Nice, helpful and, above all, constantly present and approachable crew. Every year I feel well looked after and, above all, welcome. And if you miss the market, you’re missing out on something you could tell your grandchildren (if you have any). Pentecost 2018 can come, I am ready.
