Like every month from March to October, the motto of this first weekend of the month was a braiding course and farmers’ market.
Theoretically you could have braided outside on Saturday. But only theoretically. Because wind and a sky covered in clouds made it a bit uncomfortable. So we braided in the house again. As usual for braiding beginners, it was supposed to be a bowl with interventions and for one course participant, we were a group of women only, something different was on the agenda. Here a handle repair was to be carried out on a shopping basket and a cornucopia was created.
I picked out the appropriate willows and the appropriate lengths 14 days in advance and left them in the water. So the handle was repaired while everyone else was braiding their bottom. And tackled the cornucopia when it came to the stake. A little help was necessary here and there, but on the whole all course participants completed their weaving independently.
Nice weather was promised for the farmers market. And so it was. Blue skies all day with a few clouds and the most important thing: pleasant temperature. This was also noticeable in the flow of visitors. Many people were tempted by the beautiful weather to visit the farmers’ market and purchasing behavior was also positive. Many a basket has disappeared from my table, which of course makes me happy.
We had very intensive conversations with some visitors when it came to “Corsican chairs”, Corsica in general and of course lichens or chair braids, etc. With so much chatter, the time went by very quickly and suddenly it was 5 p.m. and time was everything to pack back in the car and drive home and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
And on the first weekend in September there will be a braiding class on Saturday and a farmer’s market on Sunday.
