On December 21st I was finally able to meet Noëlle Figarella. She is an excellent Corsican basket maker and I have been looking forward to meeting her in person for a long time. So far we have only had contact via Facebook. The time had come at the Christmas market in Moriani. From Travo we drove north to Moriani and visited Noëlle.
She was quickly identified by her hat. I spoke to her without further ado. And after thinking for a moment, she recognized me. The welcome was very warm and we were able to communicate for a good two hours with a little French and Google. Luc (I hope the name is spelled correctly), an acquaintance helped out with a little English and translated when we all didn’t know what to do.
Chaud Vin (hot wine), beignets with salt or sugar and stuffed with brocciu, these are the specialties at a Corsican Christmas market and absolutely delicious. But you shouldn’t imagine the market like a typical German Christmas market. It’s simply different, but all the more interesting. More local products and fewer Christmas decorations are offered.
I hope we can meet Noëlle again during our stay in Corsica.
