Last Sunday it was that time again. Sun and pleasant temperatures in April in Bad Salzhausen at the farmers’ market. Among other things, I brought new trays and senior baskets from my workshop, the slightly smaller ones with a handle on the long side.
Although the spring festival took place parallel to the farmers’ market in Nidda, there were also many visitors to the farmers’ market.
What I found remarkable was a repair order for a handle on a basket from 1967. And the handle was only broken because of a mishap by the owner. You couldn’t really tell that the basket itself was 52 years old, even though it was used regularly. The reason for the excellent condition is the fact that it is not painted and so the willows can absorb moisture.
Craftsmanship that I also strive to carry out. Because I can’t buy baskets sealed with varnish. Wash the basket every now and then and air dry it, then hopefully my baskets should last just as long.
